In Steven Spielberg’s next film about the tough San Francisco cop, played notably by Steve McQueen in the 1968 suspense film Bullitt, Bradley Cooper has been cast in the lead role.

Cooper will portray Bullitt in a fresh narrative that is inspired by the iconic movie but is not a remake. In the first film, which was helmed by Peter Yates, the detective was looking for a mob boss who had planned a hit on a crucial witness in a case involving organised crime. The movie featured one of the most famous vehicle chase scenes in history and became one of McQueen’s trademark roles.

The new Bullitt movie is being directed by Spielberg, who will also produce alongside Cooper and Kristie Macosko Krieger. In addition to the impending Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro, this is the group’s second collaboration. The new Bullitt film is being written by Josh Singer (First Man), and McQueen’s son Chad and granddaughter Molly are serving as executive producers.

Maestro, in which Cooper co-wrote, directed, produced, and stars opposite Carey Mulligan, is now in post-production. In 2023, the movie will make its Netflix debut.
