The independently produced Batman movie with Michael Keaton as the lead has been scrapped. In a plot similar to the animated series Batman Beyond, Michael Keaton reportedly would have played an older Bruce Wayne/Batman teaching a younger, futuristic Batman.

According to sources, the cancellation is a result of DC Studios’ extensive plan reorganisation. Under the new direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran, DC Studios is now reorganising its plans for the future. Additionally recently reported cancellations included Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 as well as Man of Steel 2 and Black Adam 2.

In the next Flash movie with Ezra Miller as the lead, Michael Keaton’s Batman will make an appearance. In Tim Burton’s Batman, which was released in 1989, Keaton made his debut as the cape-wearing hero. According to reports, Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav will get Gunn and Safran’s multi-year DC strategy in the upcoming weeks.
