The world’s finest investigator, Benoit Blanc, would remark, “Oh, fiddlesticks!” if Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery had included this deleted scene. Edward Norton and Janelle Monáe talked about a sequence that wasn’t included in the finished film in a Rotten Tomatoes interview. They also revealed how David Bowie, a musician they both like, served as inspiration.

In a Glass Onion flashback, the Disrupters, a group that included Cassandra Brand (played by Monáe), Miles Bron (played by Norton), Duke Cody (played by Dave Bautista), Lionel Toussaint (played by Leslie Odom Jr.), Birdie Jay (played by Kate Hudson), and Claire Debella (played by Kathryn Hahn), can be seen making friends The founding members of the band Alpha, Cassandra and Miles, were formerly close friends. Norton and Monáe discussed how they were both “huge Bowie fans” and how Monáe covered “Moonage Daydream” by David Bowie while performing live. In order to include the song in the film, Norton recommended that the group host an open mic night at the pub so Monáe could “sing the s**t out of it.”

The two presented Rian Johnson with the concept. With Hahn and Hudson serving as the backup vocalists, he agreed and suggested that they at least record a few takes of it. Regardless of how fantastic this deleted scene would have been, it was probably eliminated because it conflicted with the tone of discord between Miles and Cassandra, who were not on good terms after Miles took Alpha from right under Cassandra’s nose. Even though the sequence was taken from Glass Onion, we’re curious whether it will appear as supplementary material on a potential DVD or Blu-ray release in the future. We can only hope that the characters will sing some David Bowie!
