Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron’s epic follow-up, is still making waves as the year comes to a close. According to Deadline, with another $70.5 million on Wednesday, the film has already made over $1.1 billion at international box offices. The picture is on course to become the biggest foreign release of the year with an international market share of 762.8 million dollars.

Despite a less-than-expected $134 million opening weekend, the film has maintained its supremacy at the box office. The movie is on course to outperform Thor: Love and Thunder’s $343 million with its current domestic gross of $337.9 million. It remains to be seen if the movie can surpass Top Gun: Maverick’s $718.7 million in revenue. The movie Avatar: The Way of Water, which is now running 1% behind the one before it, had the greatest Wednesday of the year this week with $20.4 million in revenue, beating Maverick’s $14.8 million.

The movie’s box office success is still strong in overseas regions. The movie has already made $116 million worldwide as of Wednesday, with $75 million coming from France alone. China contributed $3.7 million to the movie’s Thursday earnings despite lingering COVID-related restrictions. With $2.1 million added to the epic science fiction film’s $62.7 million total, Korea continues to enjoy widespread popularity. The film has made a total of $52.1 million from Germany and $42.4 million from India, among other major regions.
