Marvel superheroes from Hollywood studio Sony will be given the small-screen treatment by Amazon.

According to entertainment news outlet Variety, the studio, which owns the rights to more than 900 Marvel characters, inked a partnership with Amazon Studios on Thursday to create a “suite of live-action television programmes.”

The shows will air on MGM+ in the US and be available to stream worldwide on Amazon Prime Video.

The live-action programme “Silk: Spider Society,” which was developed by “The Walking Dead” showrunner Angela Kang, is the first series to result from the agreement.

The Korean American superhero Cindy Moon will be the main subject of “Silk: Spider Society.” Cindy Moon gains superpowers in the Marvel comics after being bitten by the same radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker.

As Cindy “escapes incarceration and seeks for her vanished family on her route to becoming the superhero known as Silk,” the story will follow her.

The production team behind Sony’s smash feature “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, and Kang, are working on the programme.

According to Jennifer Salke, CEO of Amazon Studios, “Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Sony’s recent live-action and animated reworking of the Spider-Man property has represented some of the most vibrant superhero storytelling in film.”

“We couldn’t be happier to present Silk: Spider Society to our MGM+ and Prime Video viewers, together with Angela Kang’s creative vision,” she continued.
