Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and said that Shah Rukh Khan had called him at 2 am on Sunday morning, expressing concern over violence at a Guwahati theatre during Pathaan’s screening.

This comes a day after the CM, at a press event, had said, “Who is Shah Rukh Khan? I don’t know anything about him or his film Pathaan” when asked about the film’s posters being burnt in Guwahati theatres by Bajrang Dal activists. Himanta also said that the people of the state should be concerned about Assamese and not Hindi films.

“Khan has not called me, though many from Bollywood do so, regarding the problem. But if he does, I will look into the matter. Action will be taken if law and order have been violated and a case has been filed,” he said. In the tweet, Himanta also wrote that he had assured Shah Rukh that there will be no such untoward incidents in the future.

Apart from SRK, Pathaan also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. The film has been facing a lot of backlash from right-wing groups over Deepika wearing a saffron bikini in the song Besharam Rang. The protesters claimed that the colour is sacred in Hinduism and donning a bikini of the colour hurts their sentiments.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra had also objected to actor Deepika’s costume in the song, calling for a rectification. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) later directed the makers of Pathaan to implement changes in the movie, including its songs, in accordance with board guidelines.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film hits theatres on January 25.
