The sequel to the 1999 political comedy “Election,” “Tracy Flick Can’t Win,” will have Reese Witherspoon reprising her role as Tracy Flick.

The sequel, which will debut on Paramount+, will once again be co-written and directed by Alexander Payne, according to American media outlet Variety. Jim Taylor and Payne will pen the script for the film adaptation.

In “Election,” a movie based on Tom Perrotta’s 1998 novel, Witherspoon plays a driven, Type-A student whose social studies teacher (played by Matthew Broderick) tries to thwart her campaign for school president.

Despite receiving little critical or financial acclaim, the film received an Oscar nomination for best-adapted screenplay, and Witherspoon garnered praise for her performance in the best actress category at the Golden Globes, according to Variety.

This follow-up, which is based on Perrotta’s second book, which was released earlier this year, starts up with Tracy as an adult as she continues to battle her way up the corporate ladder.
