We discuss Mala Sinha’s rejection of the Dadasaheb Phalke award on her 86th birthday, November 11, and how it hurt her. The invitation card did not include her name.

In 2013, Mala Sinha received the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award, but when she realized that her name was not on the invitation card, she refused to accept it.On November 11, acclaimed Bollywood actor Mala Sinha turned 86.

Mala Sinha went on to appear in some of the most well-known Hindi films, including Pyaasa, Gumraah, and Dhool Ke Phool, after making her debut as a child artist (Baby Sinha) in the 1946 Bengali film Jai Boishnob Debi.
Mala Sinha had previously stated to Bollywood Hungama in 2013 that “They’ve done grave injustice to me” in response to the fact that she was not properly invited to the Dadasaheb Phalke awards ceremony. On the invitation card, they haven’t even mentioned my name!I gladly accepted the award when members of the Phalke committee, including their chairperson, came home to ask me to accept it for being a “legendary artist.”
She went on to say that she was surprised to see that her name was not on the invitation card for the event, even though other award recipients were there, including the singer Asha Bhosle and Pam Chopra, who received the award on behalf of her late husband Yash Chopra.”It would be better if they had straightaway slapped me physically instead of insulting me in this way,” she said, calling it insulting.

She also stated that she attended the press conference, in contrast to Pam Chopra and Asha Bhosle, who did not.”The invitation was brought back to them last week.only to slander me in this manner. They haven’t even included my name on the invitation card, so forget about my picture.I instructed them to return their invitation cards.Their award is not what I want.As an artist, this is an insult to me.I can’t even begin to describe how I feel about it.I agree that Yash Chopra and Asha Bhosle are outstanding performers. But should my name be left out because I’m so insignificant as an artist?Don’t award it to me then. It’s not what I want.
Mala Sinha had also stated that in the 1960s, she had received leads in two Hollywood films from her father, but he turned them down because he didn’t want her to “work in that atmosphere of intimacy that prevails in Western cinema.”In the early 1990s, Mala Sinha appeared in films like Khel, starring Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor.
