Glen Powell and Kate Hudson had a conversation with Variety about their relationship and shared admiration for one other’s work. Hudson and Powell first connected through Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), who is pals with Tom Cruise, before becoming drinking partners. Powell and Russell collaborated on the movie Everybody Wants Some! Both Powell and Hudson can be seen in the forthcoming Knives Out sequel. Powell most recently appeared in Top Gun: Maverik.

Powell admits to Hudson that he had a sneaking suspicion that some of her personal connections may have influenced her portrayal of Birdie in Glass Onion. “From the time I’ve known you, you’ve been surrounded by some of the most fascinating individuals. There are usually intriguing, strange folks wandering around at your house or the family property whenever I visit.

Hudson acknowledges that some of her inspirations came from people she is directly acquainted with. Powell claims that he spent a lot of time finding his character in Maverick for the Tom Cruise movie Top Gun: Maverick. Powell was concerned that Maverick would be too unlikeable, but Cruise pushed him to go all in and not hold back. That, according to Hudson, is what made it work for her. “Because everyone adores you so much, you’re the person who everyone cheers for. He’s incredibly gorgeous, but I want to like him more, so it was really entertaining to see you play that.

The global Netflix premiere of Hudson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is scheduled for December 23. Devotion, a movie by Powell about the first black aviator in the U.S. Navy, is presently playing in cinemas.

Hudson is descended from a well-known show business family, including his mother Goldie Hawn and father Kurt Russell (Deepwater Horizon) (First Wives Club). According to Hudson, her parents were concerned that she would not realise how challenging the entertainment industry would be. Now that she is a mother, Hudson tells Variety that she wants nothing more than for her kids to stay grounded.
