The killer doll scenario may need to make place for Chucky and Annabelle since M3GAN could decide to stay for a long. Produced by industry veterans Jason Blum and James Wan, M3GAN is the brainchild of writer Akela Cooper and director Gerard Johnstone. It recounts the tale of an artificially intelligent robotic doll that becomes a little overly protective of the little girl she considers to be her best friend.

The movie’s early 2023 release date is rapidly approaching, and before then, directors Blum and Wan talked about M3GAN in a brand-new interview with Screen Rant. Blum’s producer, who even dressed up as the doll for Halloween in October, is obviously excited about the arrival of M3GAN. Here is Blum’s response when asked whether it suggests M3GAN may be the “start of another Insidious” for him.

But in a market where the Chucky and Annabelle series have already dominated the landscape, can a new killer doll film compete? Perhaps, as M3GAN has a gimmick that sets her apart from her forerunners a little bit. Wan explains that the doll isn’t endowed with supernatural abilities and emphasises how the AI component of the figure contributes to the movie’s sense that it may actually occur in the real world.
