When you first see Avatar: The Way of Water, it’s quite clear that this is one of the most ambitious movies ever made. Then you realise that James Cameron, who created the universe of Pandora, simultaneously produced three films.

The fact that he ever contemplated doing this is a tribute to the man’s brilliance and maybe insanity. The Way of Water, all of Avatar 3, and the opening act of Avatar 4 were all shot simultaneously. That was for a good reason, as Cameron told Entertainment Weekly. He wanted to avoid the hazards of losing audiences if they couldn’t believe what they were seeing because the actors was so young when they joined the movie. For instance, Jack Champion, a human actor that portrays Spider, was cast when he was just 12 years old. He’s now 18 and the movies are still in production.

“Although I adore Stranger Things, the characters sometimes appear older than their actual age, even though they are meant to be in high school. When we were with Jack Champion, he grew like a plant. When Jack was 14 and 15, almost up to 16, we shot with him. So, throughout the course of 18 months, we were filming him.”
