A Terminator reboot is presently “in consideration,” according to recent statements made by James Cameron. The director recently voiced his wish to return to the well-known sci-fi genre that he founded in an interview for Avatar: The Way of Water.

The franchise began with the 1987 release of Terminator, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title character. The picture was praised for its ground-breaking special effects and future themes.

Five further sequels and a television series were produced after the initial movie’s popularity. “If I were to do another ‘Terminator’ picture and maybe attempt to launch that brand again, which is in conversation but nothing’s been determined,” said director James Cameron when asked about his concept for a reboot. “I would make it much more about the AI aspect of things than terrible robots gone insane,” he said.

The long-awaited Avatar sequel, directed by James Cameron, was finally released on December 16 and has now earned more than $500 million worldwide.
