Gil Kenan, a filmmaker, will take over directing duties for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”

The core group from the Jason Reitman-directed 2021 film, including Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace, will reportedly return for the follow-up.

In a homage to the locations of the 1980s movies that will be featured in the new part, the movie’s code name is Fire House.

Together with Reitman, Kenan co-wrote and executive produced the film “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” The sequel was also co-written by the team.

It is a true honour to take up the proton pack and move behind the camera for the upcoming Spengler family tale instalment. In a statement, Kenan added, “I only wish I could travel back in time to 1984 and tell the child in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a Ghostbusters movie.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a direct sequel to the legendary supernatural comedy films “Ghostbusters” (1984) and “Ghostbusters II” starring Bill Murray (1989).

The narrative followed a single mother and her two children as they move to a tiny village and learn about their ties to the first ghostbusters and the mysterious legacy that their grandfather left behind.

The original actors that played Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts returned to their roles in the sequel.
