Fangoria and Fangoria Studios have announced the nominees for this year’s Fangoria Chainsaw Awards. The awards show has been in existence for more than three decades since its launch in 1992, consistently recognizing outstanding achievements in the horror genre for both film and TV. Many big names from horror history have been honored at previous shows, from late genre stars like Wes Craven and George A. Romero to living legends like Anthony Hopkins, Elisabeth Moss, and Lupita Nyong’o.

This year, Jordan Peele is leaing the way at the Chainsaw Awards with his latest film Nope. His third feature film following Get Out and Us, Nope has garnered ten total nominations, more than any other title at this year’s ceremony. That includes Best Director for Peele along with Best Wide Release Movie. Other notable names nominated include titles like Barbarian, Pearl, Hellraiser, Chucky, and Yellowjackets. There will also be two new categories introduced this year, adding Best Short and Best Cinematography.

“We shouldn’t be surprised at the lack of love horror received from mainstream awards this year, but 2022 was an embarrassment of riches for the horror fan, and to see none of it nominated by the bigger institutions was a bit of a shock,” Fangoria editor-in-chief Phil Nobile Jr. said in a statement. “As ever, Fangoria is happy to pick up the slack. The genre excellence on display in 2022 encompasses veterans and new voices, productions of all sizes, and every color of the dark. The competition this year is going to be a bloodbath.”
