A Disney musical film to be directed by “Bend It Like Beckham” director Gurinder Chadha will be based on a feisty princess from Indian history. The director will co-write the script with Paul Mayeda, who previously collaborated with Chadha on her 2017 film “Viceroy’s House,” according to entertainment news source Deadline.
The project will be produced by the director, who is also known for films including “Bhaji on the Beach” and “Bride and Prejudice,” along with Lindy Goldstein of the Lindy Goldstein Production label.
Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, is in charge of the endeavour.
Disney has commissioned varied Asian stories in recent years through works like the superhero film “Shang Chi” and television series “Ms. Marvel,” as well as the animated feature “Turning Red” and the live-action blockbuster “Mulan.”
