The 28th annual Critics Choice Awards have nominated the well-liked Korean drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and “Pachinko,” a bilingual series based on the best-selling book by Korean-American novelist Min-jin Lee.

The two shows have received nominations from the Critics Choice Association (CCA) for best foreign language series. They will compete against the multilingual German programme “1899,” the Danish programme “Borgen,” the Spanish programme “Garcia!” the German programme Kleo, the Italian-Napolitan programme “My Brilliant Friend,” and the Iranian

A Korean production called “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” was broadcast on the local South Korean television network ENA and is now streaming on Netflix in some areas. The drama series, in which Park Eun-bin plays the lead character, follows the life of Woo Young-woo, an autistic attorney who works at a sizable legal company.

As opposed to “Pachinko,” an American production that was streamed on Apple TV+, which is an intergenerational tale of “war and peace, love and loss, triumph and reckoning” delivered in three languages (Korean, Japanese, and English). The show’s second season is now under production.

The King’s Affection, starring Park, made history last month when it became the first K-drama to be nominated for an International Emmy in the best telenovela category.

Netflix’s popular Korean drama “Squid Game” won two Critics Choice Awards in 2021: one for best actor in a drama series and one for best foreign language series (Lee Jung-jae). The “Better Call Saul” starring Bob Odenkirk and “Abbott Elementary,” an American mockumentary sitcom set in a fictitious largely Black Philadelphia school, are tied for first place with six nominations each. On January 15 in Los Angeles, there will be a ceremony for the Critics’ Choice Awards.
