Everything Everywhere All at Once, a science fiction comedy drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (also known as “Daniels”), received a great deal of attention after taking home several awards at the prestigious Gotham Awards on Monday night at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York. Despite being up for three awards, the movie that went into the night took home the prize for best feature film.

Everything Everywhere actor Ke Huy Quan also won best supporting performance for his work in the film. The film also stars Michelle Yeoh of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Everything Everywhere co-director Daniel Kwan spoke about the film at the event, “One of the biggest things I learned about this year is the trauma that the people all around our country and all around the world are dealing with right now. Everyone is dealing with some sort of trauma.” He further added, “Right now if we’re going to endure the next 20, 30, 40, 50 years together, we’re going to have to heal that trauma collectively. We’re going to have to figure out how to open up the collective imagination and we’re going to have to figure out how to all be whole, emotionally talented, kind, resilient people.”
