Andy Samberg and Jean Smart have teamed up for a sci-fi romantic comedy, 42.6 Years which is in development at Amazon Studios.

Craig Gillespie, previously known for directing Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Fright Night (2011), I, Tonya (2017), and Cruella (2021), will be directing the film, which will have script penned by Seth Reiss, whose recent work is The Menu. While Andy Samberg came up with the original idea, he has also co-written the story with Seth Reiss. Andy is set to produce the film under his banner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story centres on a man who tries to find his ex-girlfriend after waking up 42.6 years later, physically unchanged, from an experimental procedure that rendered him cryogenically frozen.

Samberg is best known for leading eight seasons of the long-running comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as detective Jake. Meanwhile, Jean Smart is a veteran comedian. She was last seen in Damien Chazelle’s Babylon. Her work in HBO comedy Hacks earned her back-to-back Emmys, making her only one of two actors to win an award in all three Emmy comedy categories.
