According to “Variety,” “Drishyam 2,” starring Ajay Devgn, has delivered much-needed optimism to the struggling Bollywood box office with a good opening worldwide weekend total of Rs 89 crore.

The suspense thriller is a follow-up to the 2015 smash blockbuster “Drishyam,” which also stars Tabu and Akshaye Khanna. The Hindi-language movies are remakes of the Mohanlal-starring “Drishyam” movies from Malayalam in 2013 and 2021. In 2022, Bollywood has been experiencing a box-office decline; “Drishyam 2” acts as a tonic to revitalise it.

In an exclusive interview with “Variety,” Devgn said, “To speak about tonic, I feel it takes three or four Drishyams – that is what is necessary, I hope this is the beginning.” “Entertainment is the key factor in the end. Ajay Devgn said, “I really truly need to appreciate a movie when I see it, regardless of the emotions it contains.

“I feel it is not very simple to develop enjoyable films – you have to hold the public’ attention for two and a half hours,” Ajay Devgn continued. Additionally, audiences are now quite intelligent, so you can’t just throw garbage at them. Even when discussing entertainment in mainstream cinema, you need to offer them something fresh.

Devgn remarked, “I want to pick up personalities that have done tremendous things and made enormous sacrifices, but people don’t know much about them,” as he looked toward the future. We are thus working on two or three scripts.

He was alluding to his historical epic “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior,” which was the biggest box office success in India in 2020. According to “Variety,” Devgn now intends to carry the brand further with movies and television shows centred on the idea of the unsung fighter.
“For me, an unsung warrior may be someone who makes sacrifices in today’s society rather than those made in that time. Many individuals would wow you with the amount of labour and sacrifices they make, said Ajay Devgn.

Ajay Devgn’s next film, “Bholaa,” which he is also directing, is an adaptation of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s popular 2019 Tamil film “Kaithi” (Prisoner). According to “Variety,” the movie is in post-production and scheduled for a March 2023 release.

Maidaan, a historical soccer biopic based on the life of eminent Indian coach Syed Abdul Rahim, is also prepared for cinematic distribution. The movie, which also stars Priyamani, Rudranil Ghosh, Gajraj Rao, and has A.R. Rahman’s soundtrack, is slated for release on February 17, 2023.
