Academy Award nominee Steven Yeun has been tapped to star in Marvel’s phase five film Thunderbolts.

According to Deadline, Yeun’s part is significant to the film and has the potential to go forward in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films. In the Marvel comics, Thunderbolts focuses on a group of anti-heroes who are sent on missions by the government.

Penned by, Black widow screenwriter Eric Pearson the film will be directed by Jake Schreier. Thunderbolts is slated to premiere on July 26, 2024.

The earlier confirmed cast of the film includes Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen and Olga Kurylenko. Ayo Edebiri has also tapped in to play an undisclosed role.

Yeun is known for his role as Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead from 2010-16. Popular feature films in his credit include Okja and Sorry to Bother You. His performance in the 2020 drama Minari earned him his first Oscar nomination for best actor in a leading role. Other notable credits include Tuca & Bertie, Invincible, and Jordan Peele’s Nope.

Yeun’s forthcoming acting credits include Netflix’s dramedy series Beef and Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi thriller Mickey 17.
