The post-pandemic era for Bollywood hasn’t been as smooth as one would imagine it to be. The Hindi film industry, aka Bollywood, struggled to get the audience back into the theatres. While Bollywood fought to stay relevant, Hollywood movies like Top Gun Maverick, Avatar 2, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Batman, disrupted the box office in India. As Bollywood, more or less, encountered a ‘no-show’, Hollywood releases challenged the narrative that the audience is not willing to come to theatres. Adding to Hollywood, films like RRR, KGF 2, Kantara, also performed exceedingly well on the Hindi circuit, thereby leading to a lot of self-introspection.

The Batman starring Robert Pattinson released in March 2022. It is one of the highest-grossing films worldwide and collected close to Rs 49 crore in India alone. The box office collection of The Batman in India is, although, less compared to other films, but it is still better than many Bollywood movies that released around the same time. The only films that managed to work well despite the competition were Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and The Kashmir Files. Gangubai collected nearly Rs 130 crore in India. On the other hand, TKF earned nearly Rs 250 crore in India alone.

Another Hollywood film that performed better in the Indian market than many other Hindi releases is Jurassic Park: World Dominion. The film reportedly collected nearly Rs 68.56 crore from India in its entire run. It was released in India in four languages, namely, Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu on 10 June 2022. It released a week after Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj. With Rs Rs 67 crore overall collection, Akshay Kumar’s film did not even break even at the box office.
