A date for Bong Joon Ho’s comeback to theatres has been announced. The world premiere of Mickey 17 will take place on March 29, 2024, according to a Warner Bros. announcement made on Monday.

Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo are the stars of Mickey 17, which was written by Bong and is based on the Edward Ashton novel Mickey 7.

The novel, which was released earlier this year, is about a guy called an expendable who is sent on a mission to colonise a far-off planet. One crew member from each colony is assigned the most hazardous tasks, which will undoubtedly result in their demise. When they pass away, their memories are preserved and restored to cloned bodies. The seventh iteration of this crew member, Mickey 7, is left for dead on a mission in the book but survives. He learns that Mickey 8, a clone of himself, has already been made when he gets back to the base.

Producing partners include Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company and Bong through his Offscreen, Inc. brand. Director of photography Darius Khondji, production designer Fiona Crombie, editor Jinmo Yang, costume designer Catherine George, and visual effects supervisor Dan Glass (“The Matrix” franchise) are among the crew members who work behind the camera. Jae-il Jung, who scored Parasite, is the composer of the music.

Parasite made history in March 2020 when it won the Oscar for best picture for the first time in a language other than English. The Academy Award for best director went to Bong as well.

Warners revealed Mickey 17’s release date and a brief teaser at the same time.

The release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse from Sony is similarly planned for March 29, 2024.
