A new Alien movie is reportedly being created at 20th Century Studios, and Ridley Scott will produce it under his production company Scott Free Productions. Little is known about the plot of the movie, which is still in the early stages of development, but it is expected to centre on the recognisable alien Xenomorph.

The project will be directed by Fed Alvarez, who is known for thrillers including the 2016 movie Don’t Breathe and the 2013 remake of Evil Dead. Following Alvarez’s pitch to Scott Free Productions, the movie entered development. Scott Free Productions is presently accelerating the production in order to have the movie out as early as 2023.

Cailee Spaeny, who is most known for her roles in The Craft: Legacy, How It Ends, and Pacific Rim Uprising, is in negotiations to play a leading role in the movie. Spaeny just received a role in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, a biopic about renowned musician Elvis Presley’s wife, in which she will portray the title role with Jacob Elordi, who plays Elvis.

It’s unknown if the new Alien movie would completely reset the franchise or just pick up where the first one left off. The series began in 1979 with Ridley Scott’s Alien, and after a number of prequels, sequels, and spinoffs, Alien: Covenant, which was released in 2017, is the final entry in the series.
